Most photographers are scared of event work. It's hard, physically taxing and completely unpredictable. There's little to no control over location, light and subject. Crucial moments happen quickly and opportunities for important photos can easily slip away forever.
Personally, it's my bread and butter and I love it. I love the freedom and improvisation that it allows and requires. I love the challenges (... well maybe not all of them) and the fact that every event is completely unique. While I acknowledge that lining up VIP's for the style page isn't the most inspiring work, I approach each job with the eye and drive of an editorial photographer. I'll get those style shots, but I'll also do my best to deliver something unexpected and beautiful.
